"What do I look like building a relationship with something that clearly doesn't want to build a relationship with me?" he said. Growing up, Reynolds said he struggled relating to characters in books that were taught in school, like "Lord of the Flies," "Moby Dick" and "To Kill a Mockingbird." Reynolds has won multiple awards including the Newbery Honor Award, John Steptoe New Talent Award, NAACP Image Award as well as multiple Coretta Scott King Awards. Morales is among characters who appear in the 2018 award-winning animated movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Reynolds’ name appears in the character's cell phone contact list during a scene in the movie. The 35-year-old New York Times bestselling author has penned several novels including "Long Way Down," "All American Boys," "When I Was the Greatest," the Track series, "As Brave as You" and "Miles Morales: Spider-Man." and his struggles in getting into literature at an early age. Students from across the district gathered at the Stony Point High School Performing Arts Center to hear Reynolds share memories of growing up in Washington D.C. Award-winning author Jason Reynolds paid a visit to Round Rock students Thursday to talk about his personal journey and to encourage students to find inspiration in their own lives.
